The Irish Queen
Outside of the Irish, not many know much about Our Lady of Knock. She appeared on a rainy night, in the small village of Knock in the wild West of Ireland. The oddest part of the apparition is the she didn’t say a word, absolutely silent the whole time she was viewed. But the Church has her down as a genuine apparition and people flock to her. Maybe they all hear their own message from that night. I do. My birthday occurs during the feast of Our Lady of Knock, on August 22, the last day. I have a special devotion to her and credit her with all of the many, many blessings I have. Ireland starts the Novena every year on August 14. At the Shrine, it is absolutely mobbed, hard to even find a cup of tea in the (now) town. Faithful all over Ireland follow the Novena from afar. It was getting bigger every year. Until the pandemic arrived. This year the many seminars and devotions will be virtual. So now is a good time to see what’s on offer and join in the devotion.
The photo above is one I took of the many roadside shrines dotting rural Ireland in devotion to Our Lady of Knock.
The website and the Shrine went under a facelift recently and it’s good. The seminars and devotions go on all year too. Even if your not Irish-American, you may find something you like. https://www.knockshrine.ie
